Mississippi Curriculum Test Reading Score Trend Data 2001- 2004

Trend data show the percent of change over time – valuable information when considered in the context of the issues raised in the paper Curriculum Quality Counts: A KIDS COUNT Mississippi Report on the Quality of the State’s Curriculum.

When a percent represents a small number of events, the value of the percent of change is inflated.

Example: A school district with only one fourth grade student reading at the minimal level in 2000-2001 and nine reading at the minimal level in 2003-2004.

• Increase stated as raw number = 8 additional students reading at minimal level

• Increase stated as percent = 1338.9% increase in the number of students reading at minimal level

Raw numbers for the MCT scores are available on the website of the Mississippi Department of Education www.mde.k12.ms.us.
