Just The Facts

What health plans are available to children living in low-income families in Mississippi?

Medicaid and CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) are two available child health care plans available in Mississippi for low-income families.

What is Medicaid?

Medicaid is the larger program providing medical and health-related services to Mississippi’s low-income children. Medicaid can provide free annual physicals, doctor visits, hospitalization, dental care, hearing and vision care and prescription drugs.

What is CHIP?

CHIP offers a new opportunity for low-income families with children who are at higher income levels than those who are eligible for Medicaid. Families earning too much to qualify for Medicaid and too little to afford private health insurance may be eligible for low-cost health insurance for their children.
